Rolls-Royce expresses confidence in its profit targets despite tariffs

British manufacturer Rolls-Royce has said it is confident of achieving its profit targets for 2025 despite the uncertainty caused by US tariffs.

British manufacturer Rolls-Royce has said it is confident of achieving its profit targets for 2025 despite the uncertainty caused by US tariffs.

The United States has imposed broad tariffs on its major trading partners, as well as targeted taxes on specific sectors, threatening to slow global growth as businesses and consumers hold back on purchases.

"We expect to offset the impact of the announced tariffs on our business through the measures we are taking," Chief Executive Tufan Erginbilgic said in a statement ahead of the company's annual general meeting.

"We are closely monitoring the potential indirect impact on economic growth and inflation and will continue to take the necessary measures," he added.

Rolls-Royce, which supplies engines to the world's largest aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing, has undergone a significant turnaround since Erginbilgic took over in 2023.

"The transformation of Rolls-Royce is progressing well and we continue to expand the earnings and cash potential of the business," he added.

For 2025, Rolls-Royce is on track to deliver an operating profit of between £2.7 billion ($3.6 billion) and £2.9 billion.

The company's shares rose about 3% in morning trading on the London FTSE 100 index.

In February, the group raised its medium-term forecasts after annual net profit rose 4.5% to about £2.5 billion last year.

Following his appointment, Erginbilgic began restructuring the group, cutting about 6% of its workforce. | BGNES, AFP
