Tesla registrations continue to decline in France in April

The new car market contracted by 5.64%.

Tesla registrations continued to decline in France in April, falling by nearly 60% compared to the same month last year, against the backdrop of a stagnating electric vehicle market.
In the midst of upgrading its range, but potentially hampered by the image of its boss Elon Musk, the American electric car manufacturer has seen a 44% drop in registrations in France since the beginning of 2025, with 7,556 cars sold.
The new car market contracted by 5.64%, less than the previous month (-14.5%), with 139,000 vehicles registered, according to data published by the Automobile Platform (PFA).
"The market is at an alarmingly low level compared to the pre-Covid period," Nicolas Le Bigot, acting CEO of the PFA, told AFP.
"Against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, the French are consuming less and saving more. All this is exacerbated by the uncertainty surrounding the trade war that Trump is waging against all countries on the planet, with tariffs that are having a major macroeconomic impact at the global financial level and are also affecting household confidence," he added.
"Everything is falling, and in this downturn, the market share of electric vehicles is holding steady at around 18%," he continued.
Stellantis has been particularly affected by the downturn (-12% in one year). The Renault group, on the other hand, has recovered (+2%) and overtaken Stellantis in terms of volume (39,000 vehicles registered in April compared to 33,786).
Number three, Volkswagen, fell by 8.5%, held back by its Seat brands. | BGNES
