Hollywood legend George Clooney was forced to withdraw from some events at the Venice Film Festival due to a "severe sinus infection," but that didn't stop him from appearing on the red carpet last night, the Mirror reported.

The four-time Golden Globe winner missed press conferences and photo shoots, but managed to attend the world premiere of his latest film Jay Kelly, where he was filmed alongside his glamorous wife Amal.

During the event, the 64-year-old actor was seen holding his throat several times and even turned to fans and said, "I can't talk!" This caused concern among those present, but sources familiar with the situation assured The Hollywood Reporter that there was no cause for alarm.

Lexington, Kentucky-born Clooney was "very disappointed" that he was unable to attend the press conference for the drama Jay Kelly. Clooney and stars Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, and Billy Crudup attended the event and the subsequent dinner with the cast.

The film's director Noah Baumbach commented, "Even movie stars get sick." The press conference moderator explained: "George Clooney will not be here due to a severe sinus infection, but he will be attending the red carpet tonight and is very sorry he cannot be with us."

Despite the difficulties, the actor made it through the 30-minute red carpet appearance, posing for photos and talking to journalists. Although he had difficulty speaking, he and Amal looked glamorous.

In Jay Kelly, Clooney plays the lead character, a famous actor, and Sandler plays his devoted manager, as the two embark on a journey through Europe in search of themselves.

Baumbach said the film was written specifically for the Ocean's Eleven star: "I've known George for years and wanted to do something with him. We decided early on: 'This is going to be George'." | BGNES
