Katy Perry is enjoying a victorious moment following intense criticism aimed at her Lifetimes tour, reported Page Six. The pop star has already sold 1.1 million tickets and generated over $80 million in sales, her management confirmed.
According to data provided to Billboard, the $80 million figure comes from ticket sales for shows in the United States, Canada, and Australia, where Perry performed a total of 45 concerts. The impressive revenue does not include her upcoming shows in Latin America, Europe, and China. Perry’s representatives did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The 40-year-old singer has faced widespread online criticism for both the Lifetimes tour and her latest album 143. Critics mocked her for the space-themed costumes and choreography of her performances. One user on X asked, “People pay to see this?” Another wrote, “Looks like someone came out of retirement after 30 years and is trying to repeat the same moves they did when they were young and popular.”
In April, Perry was also criticized for her participation in a Blue Origin flight alongside Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Ayesha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Keryan Flynn. Critics called the trip an unjustified waste of money, and celebrities including Emily Ratajkowski, Olivia Munn, Olivia Wilde, and Jessica Chastain publicly condemned the excursion.
Perry responded to the negative comments regarding both the tour and the Blue Origin flight later that month, calling her haters “unstable and unhealed.” “Please know that I am okay, I’ve worked a lot on self-awareness, on what is real and what is important to me,” she wrote in a comment on an Instagram fan page.
“My therapist said something years ago that turned out to be key: ‘No one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe,’ and if I ever feel anything about it, it’s an opportunity to explore the feeling beneath it,” the singer continued.
Perry noted that when “the online world tries to turn me into a human piñata,” she chooses to respond with dignity and sends love. “I know that many people suffer in many ways and the internet is a strong place to pour out unstable and unhealed emotions,” she wrote.
Perry’s financial success comes during a difficult personal period, after she and Orlando Bloom officially confirmed their breakup in July following nine years together. Additionally, the pop star’s rumored new romantic relationship with Justin Trudeau has reportedly “cooled,” Daily Mail reported earlier this month. Sources say the couple stepped back due to their busy schedules and media attention surrounding their dinner meeting in July. | BGNES
