The United States has temporarily suspended the planned Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo due to concerns over the actions of the incumbent government in Pristina, Koha reported.
In a statement published on Facebook, the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo announced that the actions of the government led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti “increase tensions and instability, limiting the ability of the United States to work productively with Kosovo on shared priorities.”
“We remain committed to advancing the common interests of the United States and the people of Kosovo. Our relationship with Kosovo is based on a shared goal: strengthening peace and stability as the foundation for mutual economic prosperity. Unfortunately, the recent actions and statements of Prime Minister Kurti represent challenges to the progress achieved over the years,” the statement read.
This announcement came shortly after the U.S. Embassy’s chargé d’affaires, Ahu Pratipati, expressed disappointment with Kurti’s remarks during a session of the General Council of the Vetëvendosje (Self-Determination) Movement (LVV), where he criticized judicial institutions.
“We are disappointed by the recent actions and statements of Prime Minister Kurti, which heighten instability and insecurity in Kosovo. These actions undermine the political process, weaken Kosovo’s institutions, and fuel interethnic tensions. We are carefully considering our response, but let me be clear: any action that undermines political and economic stability poses a serious challenge to our partnership,” Pratipati stressed.
The incumbent government rejected the U.S. criticism, characterizing the actions of the executive branch as “legal and constitutional.” | BGNES
