Italy demolish Estonia in Gattuso debut, France beats Ukraine

The Azurri won convincingly by 5:0 in Bergamo.

Italy achieved a thumping 5:0 win over Estonia at home in a world qualifier from Group I. The "Azzurri" blew away the Baltic side after the break, when all the goals fell in Bergamo, to start with a significant victory under new coach Gennaro Gattuso.

The Estonians held their opponent before the break, but collapsed after Moise Kean's opening goal in the 58th minute. A dozen minutes later, the score went 3-0 for the hosts after precise interventions by Mateo Retegui and reserve Giacomo Raspadori. Again Retegui and Alessandro Bastoni were on the scoresheet in the final minutes.

The Italians, who are looking to qualify for their first World Cup since 2014, are third in the group with six points. Three more than them are second-placed Israel, who beat Moldova 4:0 away. However, the Israelis also have a game in hand over Italy. Norway is the leader with 12 out of 12 possible points. Estonia remains on three points.

In their next matches, Italy visit Israel on Monday, while Estonia hosts Andorra in a friendly.

In other qualifiers, France started their Group D campaign with a 2:0 away win over Ukraine. Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappe scored for Didier Deschamps' side.
