Iran launches 100 drones against Israel

The Israeli military (IDF) said Iran had fired about 100 drones at Israel and that it was making efforts to shoot them down. This comes after Israel carried out a series of strikes on military and nuclear sites in Iran, AFP reported.

"Iran launched approximately 100 drones towards Israeli territory, which we are trying to intercept," military spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said.

He added that 200 fighter jets were involved in the Israeli strikes on Iran, which hit about 100 targets inside Iranian territory.

"Our pilots have attacked and continue to attack military targets and targets related to the nuclear program in different areas of Iran," Defrin said.

Israeli strikes that began in the early hours of June 13 killed Revolutionary Guards commander Hossein Salami and leading scientists working on Iran's nuclear program.

In response, Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that Israel would suffer "bitter and painful" consequences.

The US was quick to stress that it was not involved in the operation and warned Tehran not to attack US interests or military personnel. US President Donald Trump later told Fox News that he knew about the Israeli strikes before they were carried out. | BGNES
