The United Kingdom has committed to providing Ukraine with 100,000 drones by the end of the financial year in April 2026, saying drones have changed the way modern warfare is fought, the Guardian reported.
The drone package, worth 350 million pounds ($473 million), is part of a broader 4.5 billion-pound military support initiative for Ukraine and marks a tenfold increase from a target of 10,000 in 2024 to 100,000 in 2025, the British government said.
"The UK is stepping up its support for Ukraine, delivering hundreds of thousands of additional drones this year and reaching a major milestone in the delivery of critical artillery munitions," Defence Secretary John Haley said.
The increase in drone support is a timely measure, following Ukraine's successful Operation Spider Web on June 1. During the operation, Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) sneaked 117 drones into Russian territory, hitting four military bases and damaging 41 military aircraft.
In addition to drone deliveries, the UK government confirmed the delivery of 140,000 artillery shells to Ukraine since January and will allocate an additional £247 million ($334 million) this year to train Ukrainian soldiers. | BGNES
