Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov declared that his government will remain in office as long as it retains the confidence of the parliamentary majority. Speaking at the opening of the final section of the Europe motorway, Zhelyazkov dismissed speculation about weakening coalition support, stressing that the opposite is true.

“There are no signs that the coalition or the majority’s support is declining. On the contrary, the more we are attacked on issues—most of them inherited and inflated into scandals—the more motivated and determined this government becomes,” Zhelyazkov told reporters.

He emphasized that Bulgaria’s democratic system rests on whether a cabinet retains a majority in parliament. “We take the arguments behind the vote of no confidence seriously, but democracy is about whether a cabinet has the majority or not. As long as the government retains the confidence of its mandate-bearer and of the parties that support it, it will continue to work. This is a serious test that Bulgaria’s path toward Europe is supported by both right-wing and left-wing parties,” the prime minister said. | BGNES
