On September 16, Albania will hold the next intergovernmental conference with the European Union.
This was announced by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. "This is an important step for Albania on its path to membership in the European Union," Rama explained and expressed his expectation that the next intergovernmental conference with the EU will open four new chapters, bringing the total number of opened chapters to 28 in just 11 months. "Albania does not stop. On September 16, the Danish EU presidency invites us, in the presence of the foreign ministers of all member states, to open four more chapters of the accession negotiations, adding them to the 24 chapters that we have opened in just 11 months - an absolute record for the speed of the negotiation process," Rama wrote on his own profile.
Tirana expects several important areas to be discussed at this meeting. “The Green Agenda and sustainable connectivity in key areas such as transport, energy, trans-European networks and the environment are now on the table. Another important milestone has been set on the path to Albania’s EU summit in 2030,” Rama said.
According to the announcement, the opening of chapters will conclude on 2 October with the intergovernmental conference, where the last group of chapters, “Agriculture and Cohesion”, will be opened. The government’s ambition is for Albania to become a full member by 2030, but, as Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos recently stated, she is optimistic about the country’s membership by 2029. I BGNES
