Teenage drama Adolescence and Hollywood satire The Studio are expected to dominate the Emmy Awards ceremony on September 15 in Los Angeles, AFP reported.
Adolescence, which has become a cultural phenomenon with more than 140 million views on Netflix, is the favorite for best limited series. The film, shot in four episodes in one take, follows the story of a 13-year-old boy accused of killing a classmate and examines themes such as toxic masculinity.
In the best comedy category, Apple TV+'s The Studio is expected to almost certainly win. The series, in which Seth Rogen plays a failed film producer, has received a record 23 nominations and has already won nine technical awards.
But the biggest tension is reserved for the finale - the announcement of best drama series. There, Severance, a psychological thriller with 27 nominations, and The Pitt, a medical drama that became a surprise hit with themes such as abortion and mass shootings, are in a tight battle.
The acting category is also attracting strong interest, where veteran Noah Wiley (The Pitt) could beat Adam Scott (Severance).
Organizers are promising a lighter and more entertaining ceremony, far from political polemics. Host Nate Bargatze even introduced a new rule - he will donate $100,000 to charity, but will deduct $1,000 for every second that the winners' speeches exceed 45 seconds. | BGNES
