Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio is joining forces with Emmy-nominated producer Greg Berlanti, known for his work on series such as The Flash and Arrow, for a new live-action adaptation of the cult animated series from the 90s. According to Variety, DiCaprio and Berlanti are working on a new television production for Netflix that will bring back “Captain Planet and the Planeteers” to the screen.

The original series Captain Planet and the Planeteers, or simply Captain Planet, is an animated production of Turner Program Services and DIC Enterprises, broadcast on TBS. Its sequel, The New Adventures of Captain Planet, aired from 1993 to 1996 and was produced by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons.

Created by Barbara Pyle and Ted Turner, the series tells the story of a group of teenagers from different parts of the world who receive magical rings from the spirit of the Earth - Gaia. With their help, the youth fight environmental crises, joining forces to summon the powerful superhero Captain Planet. | BGNES
